For Berkeley and Launchpad, there's a selection process: you need to find a team that will take you. Berkeley has a limited number of spots. Usually it's a small group, but for the current promo they gave extra spots on the condition that everyone had to go or no one went. For housing in the Bay Area, it depends on the cohort. Some years people prefer living in Berkeley itself to be close to campus, while others prefer San Francisco where more of the startup scene and social life happens. Courses in Berkeley are only once or twice per week, so either works.
We highly recommend living inside Paris. You'll only go to campus at most twice a week during the initial phase, and less afterwards.
The official total for 2026/2027 is 33,900 EUR, made up of 30,950 EUR of academic fees, 1,950 EUR of student services fees and 1,000 EUR of administrative fees. If you are not from the EU or an Erasmus+ associated country, add a 2,000 EUR supplement. Applying costs a non-refundable 150 EUR on top of all that, and HEC tells you to budget roughly 1,500 EUR a month for living costs.
HEC lists both merit-based and needs-based scholarships, and the amounts are decided case by case, so treat any percentage you hear from a student, mine included, as hearsay rather than a number to plan around. Berkeley costs extra on top of everything above. Most people who go are awarded a scholarship that covers part or all of it, granted once you're already in the program and through the selection process, and decided on financial criteria: you submit a document presenting your financial plan for the year, and the amount follows from that.
Each cohort normally has around 120 students, and roughly 65% are external applicants.
There are five rounds in total, but they are split by applicant type. Some are exclusive to current HEC and École Polytechnique students, while the others are for external applicants. There is one general waiting list, and candidates on it still have a chance of being admitted until shortly before the program starts in September.
Deadlines and results dates move every year, so read them off the official admissions page rather than off a forum post. The application rounds page is also where the eligibility bar lives: a Bachelor's of at least four years worth 240 ECTS or a Master's, and a minimum B2 in both English and French, because the program runs in both.
HEC students get results alongside the other masters programs. Externals/MSc get their results before that.
